is there a way to force the update? I have the same issue but I know where the software is at and have downloaded it. I do the manual installing of the firmware and it opens and then when it goes to the installing part the (%) just sits there. Also what version of firmware should I install? I am at 2.41.116 and have tried to install the same firmware number as well as the latest. Thanks for the help
OK what worked for me when I had the same as you was to download the firmware 2.42.212 and install and then download 04.05.00-353 (OS5) and install and all went well.
Huh? 04.05.00-353 is OS3 not OS5 and even more, generally 04.05.00-353 cannot be installed to v2.x My Cloud units. To top it off the v4.x firmware is only used for the older first generation single bay/single drive My Cloud.
i finally got it to update, turns out I was doing things wrong. I was just downloading the firmware and trying to install. I was finally able to update to 2.41.121. The one I got to work was in a different format then the reset I was trying.
Because WD does what it does and it confuses we end users for many years.
First generation single bay My Cloud uses v3.x and v4.x firmware with both use firmware files ending in .deb.
Second generation single bay My Cloud and the multi bay My Cloud units use the v2.x firmware that ends with .bin.
Generally if one attempts to manually flash the wrong firmware (v4.x firmware to a v2.x My Cloud or the v2.x firmware to the old gen 1 single bay My Cloud) the My Cloud Dashboard will generate an error message and not allow the firmware update to proceed.

I was able to get mine to update to the 2.41.121 but for some reason I am still unable to locate my device when I try and log in when I go to the my cloud sign in. I get the same thing when I try and sign in threw the os5 app. I log in and it does a search on my network and can not locate my cloud device. after a couple times it asks for a code from the quick install guide. mine did not come with a 9 digit code
I got the issue fixed as far as being able to log into my cloud on the web and accessing my network hd. Turns out I forgot to activate the port forwarding for the http and such and nothing was on. Now if I could just figure out how to update to os5 and get it working. lol
