Im having a serious issue with Mycliud. Ive only had it approx 6 months but yesterday it suddenly stopped working.
I checked the manual which stated that the LED was hte OS booting , so I left it alone. ^ hours later it was the same story. I tried resetting it with no luck.
I have over 2.5 TB of stuff on it. Most of which i have been buliding up for the last 10 years. I really need some good news about this.
I was streaming a 20 minute video and if stopped mid way through and neither my laptop nor my ipad was able to detect it on the network.
Its stayed white for over 6 hours with no sighs of changing. I assuming when you suggest “shutdown” you mean the safe way buy ejecting it etc. That is not an option. Dashboard does not load at all. its for all intensive purposes a white bookend with a white LED.
Ok ive ive done all suggested options and its still on the whited LED. Im assuming its fudged and now i have to go on a massive rant to WD about the fact that heir update has destroyed 10 years worth of data.
Don’t you still have all your data on your computers, I sure do. The WD My Cloud I bought for back up and the extra’s that came with it are nice but I would never wipe out what I have on my computers. I also have all of my data backed up on CD’s and DVD’s. All the programs I have bought are on CD’s or DVD’s.
Â
I have had a hard disk go out on my old Apple computer and one on my current desktop PC that I had to have replaced. I have never lost anything because I had it all backed up somewhere else.
The simple answer is no. I got mycloud because I only had 160gb on my MacBook (which I’ve had for 8 years and whose hard drive has never failed) and I’ve only had the mycloud since November.
The whole reason I bought WD was for reliability.
I didn’t really want to get a hard drive for my hard drive. And disc would be a no no. It would take me weeks to back up!!!
I completely see your point but with WD I should have to do what you’ve suggested for at least another 6 months
I understand, all mine has been created over years of backing up.
Â
My Western Digital Caviar Green 2 TB Â that came in my new Gateway Desktop PC went out after only seven months of use. I had it replaced with a Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200 RPM.Â
Â
It did take about a week to get everything loaded onto the new hard drive. I did most of it at night so I could use the computer during the daytime. Most everything I had to move was on my laptop so I moved a little each night. Programs I put back on during the day starting with the ones I needed the most.
So you see my dilemma. I’ve contacted WD on twitter which for some reason seems to be the only way to get a response from them. I have asked that they put out some info because from what I can see a **bleep** of a lot of people are in the same position as me and their lack of communication is just insulting.
I have broken 3 HDD’s in 30 years. So that is 1 in 10 years time. The last one was a WD My Cloud WD RED 3 TB. My former WD My Cloud from Malaysia. I was shocked myself to hear it scrape the heads on the platters. It was a white light story as well. The others were a Samsung and a Conner. What is important for a HDD is to stay cool. The Samsung broke because I used a factory format program on it, not realizing that Samsung had something on that HDD that was essential in booting it. It was still spinning but Samsung replaced it without any complaint.
Still not updated to the latest firmware. Most of it all is working, except now my Samsung Galaxy S4 cannot download from it anymore, which it used to be able to do so. Likely because of Kit Kat 4.4.2 Â with Jellybean 4.3 it was ok. Then again, Google and Samsung have stopped supporting third party apps to write directly to the SD cards.
Ok ive ive done all suggested options and its still on the whited LED. Im assuming its fudged and now i have to go on a massive rant to WD about the fact that heir update has destroyed 10 years worth of data.
There has to be another solution…?
The 40-second restore is NOT a fast process. It took over an hour for mine. Are you waiting long enough?
