Still problems streaming .WTV files

I am having a still having problem when playing my Windows 7 media center (.WTV) files. Windows DVR files…  I thought the 1.04.10_V firmware would fix this know issue.   Had no issues with playing the file from Vista.

It plays 10 seconds, then sound drops out and video goes into slow mo…

Does anyone knows how to fix this?   No Nextfilx with the upgrade?

WDTV Live has never played WTV files - you need to convert them to DVR-MS.

Two revs of the firmware ago, they hid the *.wtv files (they didn’t when they first allowed “play to”) so you couldn’t select them by mistake.

On Windos 7 media center, right click a file in explorer and convert to DVR-MS. Vista worked because the files were in DVR-MS format; MS changed to *.WTV and for some reason WD doesn’t want to add the function to decode it properly.

Also, there is a tray app called WTV watcher that will automatically convert WTV to DVR-MS after the shows are recorded.

WTV is a closed format that Microsoft does not license, so we cannot decode it.

Well, you can… :stuck_out_tongue:

But they’d just send the lawyers after you like they did with .asf and .wmv back when everyone was adding it without a licence.

But if it’s not in the list of supported formats, I wouldn’t think it not working would be a “problem” or even surprising, regardless of whether licencing is available or not.  It’s simply not supported.

At least we know why it isn’t supported and won’t likely ever be.

so why do list *.wtv files at all? When viewing files listed by series, you don’t distinguish between WTV and DVR-MS - so as a user it is a ■■■■ shoot which one i click on. A couple versions ago, you hid WTV files, now you show everything and if i pick a WTV file,  WDTV Live plays 30 seconds and then starts to stutter.

Please hide the WTV files if the box won’t play them.
