Strange bug using Live +

Hello all,

I have bought the TV Live Plus about two week ago, and I have a strange bug.

Tried seraching the forums - could find anything helpful.

HDMI connected - working fine, great picture.

The issue is, that when i try to open any kind of music file or movie file - sometimes it loads and plays with no problem, but quite often it gives me an error message that the kind of file I am trying to play is not supported. it could be a simple MP3 file of any ordinary video file (no fance codec or anything).

So, once it gives me this error message, i go back to ther main menu, choose a different file and try to play it - if it works, than i go back to the original file i tried to play - and that it will work!

sometimes i can go through several differernt files and get “cant play” error messages - until it does play one file, and then like I said i go back and it will play all the rest without any problem.

Anyone heard of such a thing? any solution?

I have tried to fix this problem upgrading the firmware - no difference.

I am cuurently streaming the file through the Ethernet - but makes no difference even plying through USB.

Welcome to the forums.

You say you are playing through the ethernet – are you using net shares or media server?  Because you definitely want to be using net shares.

During streaming over ethernet I am indeed using Net Share and NOT Media server.

I have also tried playing from direct USB but encounterd same problem.

Try

resetting via the side paperclip button

resetting via the internal menu

unplugging the unit from power for some minutes (not seconds)

Do all 3 before using again.

If weird things happen then sometimes the problem can be overcome by the general (and over kill ) reset detailed above.

I have done all of above (I for one am a big fan of “Resetting-when-not-working”

unfortunately, did not improve the situation…

BTW it has been like this from day 1 - before FW upgrade, after FW upgrade, before and after hard resetting.

Day 1?  Ah, then post the MediaInfo for one of the files you’re having trouble with.

Well, I’m more of a video guy than an audio one, so I was really looking for a video file you were having trouble with (I know RIch plays audio so perhaps he’ll jump back in here).

I don’t see the WD Live as an audio player (not what it was designed for – it’s only a secondary function).

Note - it could be any file, this is just one of them. the minute i manage to play any file and go back to the “problamatic” ones - they play without problem.

We know that playing a “problem” MKV file (one made with MKVMerge greater than 4.0) can cause issues playing both it and other files – the particular file you posted is not one of them.  You might try this – with the Live reset (and unplugged for 10 minutes) do not play any MKV file but play anything else (stick with video for now).  Play an AVI, or an MP4, just not any MKV file.  Does everything work then?
