I have a WD My Book World Edition (white strip light) and my PS3 has recognised it as a media server. However, when I play video files through it, the resulting experience is very poor with the video freezing every few seconds. Also, occasionally the video will carry on but the sound will cut out. Then the video will freeze and the sound will catch up before it carries on again. It makes watching even a short television episode completely impossible. When using my WD USB drive, playback is perfect. There is no other network traffic other than the My Book at the time of testing.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how I might go about fixing this?
Have you tried going wired and see if that solves the problem? Wireless isnt the best for streaming video and many PS3 owners complain of poor wifi performance.
I just purchased my WDMBWE yesterday at Best Buy (on clearance for $100!) and was bale to have it setup in a few hours.
After copying over all my movies, music & photos my wired PS3 worked flawlessly at picking up the media server and opening all 3 shares.
I tried my wireless PS3 in the bedroom and that too worked fine for me. I’m running a Belkin N+ router and have UPnP turned on for both the router & PS3. I also have staic IP’s assigned to all PS3’s along with static DNS entries from Comcast (not using the router’s gateway as the DNS). I do not have anything in the DMZ either.
I think using this setup has worked out well as it alleviates some network stress on the PS3 from having to obtain an IP lease etc. I’ve ntoiced that since using static assignment I can play MW2 wiressly in the bedroom while someone plays in the living room without either of us getting bounced out of the lobbies.
