Subtitles listing but not showing

Hi Everyone,

My first post since picking up the WDTV LIve a couple of months ago.  Overall I’m very happy with it but I’m having trouble understanding why subtitles are not showing.

I see there are lots of threads for this but none seem to fit my issue.

I have ripped my Blu-Rays to MKVs which have the subtitles in them.  I have used mkvmerge to remove the subtitle languages I don’t want.  When I play these with VLC they work fine and I can chose the subtitle language that I want.  When I play these on the WDTV LIve they work fine and pressing options/subtitles brings up the list of subtitle languages.  I select one, then select the Green tick but no subtitles show on the screen.

I have tried this over SMB and DLNA and am using a NAS (ReadyNAS Duo, but this is soon to change to a Synology).

Any help appreciated.  Thought I’d try here first before WD support.

How did you rip your blu rays to mkv?

What type of subtitle file is in the mkv?

You could post the complete text output from mediainfo. (Free)

Untick the boxes if you don’t want the extras.

I used AnyDVD to rip them to an ISO and AVS Video Converter to convert to MKV.

Here’s the MediaInfo output (large, I’m afarid).  I see it says the Subtitles are PGS.  Does the WDTV Live not support PGS?

Do the newbies not bother to read the forum stickies? The WDTV only displays PGS subs that are compressed with zlib as MKVToolnix does by default and MakeMKV does when set to use the WDTV profile.
