Subtitles when streaming from MBL Duo - MiniDLNA?

Hi,

I recently purchased a 4TB MBL Duo and I’m having problems getting the subtiles to work when streaming to my Philips PFL5007 TV.

It seems installing MiniDLNA should solve this problem, but I’m not sure I dare to install something which I don’t really understand (linux programming). Just how difficult is it, and how much can go wrong?

I found  this rather straight forward tutorial on how to install MiniDLNA on a MBL, but I obviously have no idea whether it is completely fail proof or not.

Any other ideas on how to solve the subtitles problem?

Thank you very much

/e

AFAIK this is up to the media server and the TV to play the subtitles

do you know what type of subtitles does the TV support?

Have you tested with different files?

Does your TV support subtitles over DLNA server?

Hi, and thanks for answering!

Subtitles (.srt, .sub…) work when playing from a USB drive. I can also stream with subtitles from my PC using the PS3 media server (no other media server has worked, I have tried like 10 different ones).

The PS3 media server would thus be great if only I could install it on the MBL, but unfortunately that is not possible, and that’s why I was considering miniDLNA. Supposedly, this media server can stream with subtitles to my TV (but I’m not 100% sure).

The TV does apparently not support subtitles over DLNA. If it did I wouldn’t have this problem.

It is not just your tv, AFAIK the DLNA specification does not support streaming subtitles :frowning:

Apparently it does (the Twonky server installed on the MBL still **bleep** though).
