Support for APFS?

Will MyCloudEx2’s TimeMachine support APFS? Since I upgraded to APFS I can’t use the TimeMachine anymore.

Hi there, I don’t use Time Machine but I think it should support APFS. Let’s see if another use has encountered issues with the upgrade and can provide some helpful information.

I wouldn’t have asked if it already does support APFS.

I brought this up to support two months ago. First they did not know what it was at the time. I have followed up, and requested they present a formal response to what will be a common question. Apple’s formal response is the AFP Apple file protocol, is “deprecated”. Which means not recommended. Leaving the windows SMB protocol the only one left. And neither WD nor Apple will say it that works, the latest being SMB3. The WD still provides AFP as an option, even though it is not functional anyone.
Really WD must say:
What are they doing to support APFS.
When will that be available.
What are they doing to support Time Machine that is modified for APFS.
Your question has been a month, with no response, which is telling.

Not an answer, but just wanted to add my voice to wanting this answered. When macOS Sierra came out, I thought WD was slow to release a firmware update for the EX2…and with rumours of High Sierra coming very soon, I’m keen to know how proactive WD is being on this?

Cheers,

Phil

I’m not sure what to think about the deletion of the staff post and my own reply to that. So my question has been noted but remains preferably unanswered? What does that tell me?

I’m a current MyCloud single 2TB Gen 1 unit looking at upgrading to the EX2 ultra. We are all Apple here and concerned about Time Machine support with high sierra coming next week. Does WD even support time machine over SMB3? Qnap and Synology both support that and its something required here for my users.

Like I stated in my deleted post - it does not. When you enable Time Machine it always enables AFP with it. Time Machine Backup can’t be used over SMB right now.

We need a reply and update or I have to get my $ back for these multiple drives that do not work with APFS.

I’m running macOS 10.13.2, backing up to time machine seems to work fine.

It does indeed. At some point Time Machine just started working again.
