Thumbnails

Sorry to start another thread, but I am confused about whether thumbnails will work.  I saved pictures name folder.jpg in all my movie files on my attached USB drive.  The thumbnails worked until I turned off the WD TV Live.  I understand this is a known issue, but is there a way to correct this with the current firmware?

I’m not sure what you mean by a “known issue.”

You can try to correct it by attaching your drive to a PC and deleting the hidden .wd_tv folder…

Tony, I thought this was an issue that had affected everyone.  I will try and remove that hidden file.  Thank you.

I removed the .wd tv file and also removed all the “folder.jpg” that my mac showed as having 0 kb of info.  I added a few new folder.jpg to a couple of movies and they showed up fine.  After turning off and back on the player, these no longer showed up and again showed they had been corrupted and had 0 Kb of info in the file.  Can anyone recommend a solution to me?

Hmmm.   How are you adding them?   Are you adding them by attaching the drive to your PC?   Or are you adding them via Network?

What you’re describing is certainly NOT common…

I’m adding them one at a time via Network.  Is that a no no?

Are you EJECTING the drive before you turn the power off?

Yes, every time.

What format is the drive?

Tony,  I do almost everything with my macbook pro, so I formatted the exernal hard drive with OS Extended Journaled.  Let me tell you what I did for the past 30 minutes.  I deleted the wd tv file again and added around 12 thumbnails via an eSATA cable attached to my external hard drive.  I have ejected the drive and turned on and off the media player 3 or 4 times now and the thumbnails continue to work.  Maybe you were on to something when you asked if I was transferring the files through the wireless network.  I will continue to work on adding thumbnail files tomorrow and I will post here if they are working or not.  Thanks for the help so far today and I hope maybe we have figured this thing out.

That’s the problem.   The WDTV does NOT SUPPORT JOURNALING.  It says so in the spec.

If you were WRITING FILES through the NETWORK, the JOURNAL was not being updated, so when you turned it off, they files are corrupted.

Turn OFF Journaling and you should not have that problem again.
