Time Machine Stops Reconizing WDMyCloud-3TB over Wireless Network (MacBook Air, OSx Mavericks)

I have been successfully using Time Machine with my WD My Cloud device for some time now. I connect to my WD device wirelessly with my MacBook Air. I recently noticed that I am getting “Backup Failed” error messages. It turns out that my MacBook Air stops recognizing the WD My Cloud device. I have to go in, manually remove the disk from Time Machine, and reselect “Use Disk” for Time Machine to function properly again. If I do not remove/reselect the disk, I get an error message something along the lines of “sparse bundle already in use.” I am not sure what the exact error is, but I can get it the next time my MacBook Air stops recognizing the Backup Disk. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Let me start by apologizing for double posting. Earlier I was in a rush for an apppointment and left out a couple of details.

Two quick notes, I have to reset the My Cloud deivice to get it to work properly. I cannot just Remove Disk/Select Disk within Time Machine to get my MacBook to reconize the My Cloud. I have to go itnto Settings–>Utilites–>Reboot and restart the deivce before Time Machine will reconize the device. Also I have the WD MyCloud set to a static IP address so there should not be any issues with the device getting assigned different IP addresses.

So after reseting the WDMyCloud (as mentioned in prevous post) I was able to run backups successfully for ~22 hrs. As I mentioned earlier, I can get Time Machine to work properly after reseting the MyCloud deivece,  removing the Backup Disk from Time Machine and finally reselecting the back up disk. _ I should not have to manually reconfigure my settings; sometimes several times a day, to run Time Machine!! _

Note I did not make any changes to my MacBook or MyCloud. This eveningl approxiatly 22 hours after I reset the WD MyCoud and resected the back up disk in Time Macihine preferences, I get the follwing popup:

"Backup Failed, The backup on “WDBackup3TB is already in use”

When I select Details I get the follwoing erros:

"Time Machine couldn’t complete the backup to WDBackup3TB

The backup disk image ~/Volumes/TimeMachineBackup/Dan’s MacBook Air.sparsebundle” is already in use."

As always, thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I’m sorry I don’t have a solution, but I am having the exact same problem. After rebooting My Cloud my MacBook Pro backs up without an issue for about 24 hours, but then I begin getting the same error.

If someone from WD has a solution to this reoccuring problem we would like to know what it its.

Yup! Got the exact same issue. Brand new wdmycloud with latest firmware, macbookpro2014 OS X 10.9.4

Make sure that the share you use for the TimeMachine backukp is not mounted in OSX. You don’t need to mount it to back up there. If you have mount it, there could be other processes checking, indexing maybe.

How do I find out if the volume is mounted or not? Cant see it in finder, except under “shared”…

If you see it in the shared and you are connected (should show in a grey bar at the top of the finder window) you should be fine. It shouldn’t make a difference, but try to disconnect from the server and then run TImeMachine.

If you have chosen Go > Connect to Server to access a particular share, and if you have the General Finder Preferences set to show Connected Servers, you will see the mounted share on the desktop.

To unmount, drag the mounted share to the trash.

ok, then the volume have never been mounted.

Ok then, you have to reboot the NAS to fix this issue.

Not each time timemachine wants to backup, it usually last the day, but the next day I get an error message telling me that the volume or something is busy. I reboot, and its fine again. Really strange cause my mac is often logged out during the day.

This is weird, but now I´m on the 3.day without problems, I´n not sure if the wdmycloud updated the firmware, I have it on automatic updates. But now its backing up perfectly.

I had this problem and then got this other problem saying The disk image 'Matthew’s iMac.sparsebundle" is in use Try ejecting the disk image.

Help! Had enough as may take WD MyCloud back to shop and get Apple Time Capsule. It shouldn’t be this hard surely.
