Transferring files from computer to harddrive

Hi All,

I’ve just treated myself to the WDTV Live streaming media player and a 1TB elements harddrive.  I’ve got the streamer wired to the router behind the TV and I’m trying to transfer all my media files from my computer.  I want to try and do this over the network without unplugging the harddrive everytime I want to do this, but when I try, the transfer rate is about 1.5 MB/s.  The computer is connected to the network wirelessly.

I can stream from laptop to ipad already, which must require a faster speed than 1.5 MB/s, so I’m just wondering what I’m doing wrong.

Check if you have any firewall enabled that is slowing down the transfer rate. Also check if you are using a 100 or 1000 Gigabit router.

I have the windows firewall, but how do I check to see if it’s responsible for slowing down the transfer?  The router is the one I got from Sky when I upgraded to fibre.

Disable it for a moment and the check if that helps with the transfer rate.
