TV not connecting to WDTV live box

Hi guys I bought the WDTV live some 2 months ago. But is connected to my HD Tv via a HDMI cable. All works fine but sometime I turn the tv on an then the box or vice versa and nothing appears on the screen. It’s like it is bit plugged in. I disconnect and reconnect the HDMI cable, nothing.

To get the picture back I have to pull the power lead out and reconnect it to the WDTV live box for it to reset and then the picture finally comes in on screen that it loading etc.

Any ideas why I lose the connection??

Your help would be greatly appreciated as I don’t want to keep resetting the box.

Thanks

Consider swapping your HDMI cable over for another ‘better’ one.

It’s a new cable

You could try another cable.

If you are set as HDMI auto you could try setting the HDMI output manually to say 1080p 60Hz or whatever your TV supports.

You could try resetting the player to factory defaults.

I set a wdtv up for a neighbour and used one of my ‘cheap’ Chinese HDMI cables which worked fine on my older Samsung Plasma TV. When I tried to use the same cable to connect him up his Toshiba TV it didn’t ‘see’ the WDTV.  He went and bought a more expensive cable that fitted more neatly into the WDTV media player and it worked perfectly.

All my HDMI cables are cheap and they all work. Expensive does not equal better just different.

richUK, I suspect the problem is at the TV end and not the WDTV.  It is that brand of TV which needs an ‘appropriate’ cable to remember that the WDTV is connected.

I have an older flat screen.  Sometimes I have problems if I turn on the WDTV first.  I never have issues when I turn on the tv first.  I’m guessing that the tv needs to be on already in order to recognize the signal.

I get this with the old WDTV Live: when the TV is off and the Live on first, the handshake won’t work properly and the resolution falls back to 720p or I don’t get a signal. I have to turn on the TV first.
