Hi folks,
Please help as I’m really starting to lose patience.
I have a WD MyBook Live 2tb which obviously has the Twonky Media Server built in.
I have created a simple folder structure all witnin the public share. The folders are:
Shared Videos - contains my sony handycam video footage of the family etc…
Shared Photos - contains all my digital photos taken
Shared Movies - contains my movie collection
Shared Software - contains some software that I have donwloaded etc…
I’m new to a NAS harddrive and media streaming, but when I’ve then loaded Twonky I am able to direct it to look at specific folders to stream. Therefore I’ve selected the path which points to my movie collection (/Public/Shared Movies). Clicked save settings and then built the database. For the first few times ths worked a treat and I was able to see and view my movie collection via my PS3.
HOWEVER, for some unknown reason my settings keep changing. A few nights ago I booted up my PS3 to watch a film as normal, but instead of just being able to see my normal movie collection (70 films) I was faced with over 800 files. After doing a bit of looking it became clear that twonky was sending all video files to my PS3 (ie all my iphone videos, movies and hanycam videos of the family!!!
I checked with Twonky and the share locations and saw that it had lost my settings, ie not directed at my movies!!!)
Why would twonky lose these settings.
Since then no matter how many times I direct twonky to this folder it simply loads all my video files, not just my movies!!! I’m really starting to lose my temper so any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!
Cheers,
Lyndon.
Although Twonky will let you make changes to the share paths via the TWONKY web interface, you shouldn’t change them there because they are overwritten by the MBL’s configuration.
Twonky probably doesn’t let WD disable that screen for some reason, but I have no idea…
Anyway, you need to pick which shares have media in them via the MBL’s configuration, not the Twonky configuration.
So if you have media that you do NOT want Twonky to scan and serve, then create a separate Public share and put the media there, and DISABLE Media Serving for that share.
Twonky does its own catalog display even with music; I think that everything is considered “Shared Video” in Twonky. Don’t have much in videos yet but lots of music. In music, I find that the only reliable way I can play albums is selecting “genre/albums”. If I select “album” I get a list of artists for the album compilations; no problem if there is only 1 artist; else I have to select each “artist” for listening which will be a pain in the a**. If I selected “artist”, then I get everything by that artist regardless the album; if I selected “folder”, then I still encounter the problem that I had when selecting “album” as within each folder is another folder containing the album & within the album are the choices by artist. There are other choices for playing but all of them isn’t any good for me; I believe that Twonky is mostly geared for “singles” format. The microsoft media player is even worst regarding the playing of “albums”; simple DLNA would be best for my use as it doesn’t try to be “dumb” enough to over index the files & would let me drill down via folders without regard to the artist. I’ve used video but it also isn’t straight forward to getting to my folder for the movie.
