Unable to access WD TV Play from PC

hi there - I’m a basic, new user to WD tv so I’m struggling to with this problem (and I apologize if there’s a thread of this topic already and I’ve missed it!)

Here’s my scenario:

  • windows 8 laptop

  • wd tv play (just bought it)

  • I turned on my new wifi modem, connected my laptop (no problems), connected my wd tv play hub (no problems…I can watch youtube, etc from my TV now).  This is all i’ve done basically.

but…

I want to transfer files from my laptop to the external HDD that’s connected to my WD hub.  When I go to Network, I see my WD hub under ‘media devices’, not ‘computers’.

When I was at my friend’s (who has WD tv live), I was able to access it under ‘computers’ and copy files over.

are there ‘extra’ steps I need to take?

The WD Play (not Hub) does not support shares but DLNA only.

Do you think this is common sense?, i have the same issue and i really think thats its a wd move to have costumers to their others products, i bought this thinking i can do this basic things, but to my surprise this thing has been a downgrade from even  the first gen wd tv live that i used to have, very buggy, very laggy, even an ugly box.

i really think they have to release a firmware upgrade soon, they have to fix a lot of things
