Unable to format new 2TB Caviar Green

I bought a 2TB Caviar Green drive for my Vista system but am so far unable to format it.

I initialized in ‘Disk Management’ but I have tried 4 times to format, each time it reaches 100% (after 12-24 hours) and then states ‘unable to format disk correctly’.

I ran Acronis True Image but got the following error massages: Failed to write data to the disk. Failed to write to sector ‘-387,938,305’ of hard disk ‘2’. Failed to write the snapshot manager drive. (0x1000DA). Incorrect function (0xFFFO).

I also ran the WD Digital Data LifeGuard Diagnostics and got the error ‘Cable Test::diagnostics sector error!’. My cables seem to be perfectly fine so I don’t understand this error.

Does this look like a faulty disk?

Did you initialize as GPT or GUID

I have same problem  with a new 2To Caviar Black and I finally discover than I can create 1 To partition only.

The remaining space cannot be either use for a second partition.

WD send me another disk because I thought it was a disk failure, but the problem is the same with second one.

It looks like my computer (Pavillon HP a6167 Vista 32bit) is not capable to handle such HDD.

I have updated Bios, sata driver, … as recommended by HP.
