Hi, I have read and followed the instructions but I am unable to roll back my firmware from 1.06.43 to any previous firmware. I copy the files (tried a dozen firmware versions) to a USB stick, tried soft boots, hard boots, inserting the stick in after boot and the units (I have three not working now due to the new update). Non of them will recognize that there is firmware there and allow me to update/roll back. I tried the reset button as well.
If I can’t go back to an old firmware, the units are garbage. The new update won’t show my network shares and won’t play anything but .avi videos through my media server.
What firmware are trying to roll back to and are you aware of the WD warning regarding rollback.
Very Important: Rolling back to version 1.05.04 or earlier may break your WDTV.
Some users have rolled back to older firmware without any problems but its probably better to do it in steps. The first rollback firmware should be downloaded from the WD site below.
After rolling back as above, you should now get hold of the firmware that you want to go back to. The ver file will need to be edited in notepad in order to fool the player into rolling back. The version number in the ver file should be changed from 1.x.x to 2.x.x, the x being dependant on the firmware. The player should now recognise the firmware and rollback. After the rollback the player will again say there is new firmware but you can ignore that. You will also have to ignore the reminder to update if you are connected to the internet.
