Hey,
So I was installing what I needed through SSH, everything seemed to be working and was all going great. Set up syncing to SFTP server, and automatic content extraction, and time machined my MacBook. I even hooked the device to an Ethernet to Wifi adapter. Everything was perfectly how I wanted it, until I rebooted and it never loaded again. Oops.
I guess this means I just get to play around with fixing it. So far I have successfully opened the case, and once my sata cable kit arrives in the post I will be able to mount it. Until then I have been trying to work out exactly how I would actually reinstall the firmware.
I have downloaded the .deb firmware and extracted it, and successfully mounted and booted the rootfs.img in QEMU. However, it seems to boot into the installation screen, which seems problematic if I were to just ‘dd’ it onto the physical drive. How do I go about deploying the image onto the device so it will perform an automated install?
I assume I can’t install it from my MacBook as it will need to be the armhf version, I guess I could attempt to install through QEMU the smallest Debian onto the physical hard-drive and then once I can SSH back into it, run the system reinstall.sh which I have seen on the rootfs.img somewhere.
So basically, my question is, what is the easiest way to restore the hard drive image?
If anyone is interested on how to open a WD My Cloud case (I googled it and couldn’t find anything useful), it has 4 clips on the back which sort of hold the sides to the case. It then sides off towards the front of the device. You can break the plastic clips of the sides, (it still locks back into place nicely), yet it will be easier to get back into next time you brick it
Thanks
