UnBricking using Ubuntu

I side loaded Ubuntu and I’m using a USB docking station. All my files are still there, so that’s good.

Couldn’t I simply click on ‘restore image’ and then use the 4tb img I have saved onto a flash drive?

Shouldn’t that reset the entire drive to be usable again?

Need more information. It your My Cloud a Gen1 or Gen2?
If the P/N ends with “-00” it is a first generation My Cloud.
If the P/N ends with “-10” it is a second generation My Cloud.

Ends with 00 = 1st gen

Depends on when the backup was made. I’m not sure I understand your 4TB img. How was the 4TB img created?

I don’t know… I’m following a few links from the community and downloaded a couple

If you downloaded the 4TB img from one of the unbrick threads. It will not have your data files.
What is the problem with your device that you have to unbrick it?

I was impatient and unplugged it while it was doing a system reset or something… anyways it was working fine up until then and now, I get the “RED light of DEATH”.

Does the instruction that are on the thread that you got the 4TB img say that it will not
destroy the data partition? If the disk still has the correct partitioning. You really only need to restore
partitions one and two most likely.

Personal data is already backed up to other drives, so at this point it doesn’t matter. Luckily for me Ubuntu’s diskpart isn’t automatic or else I would have deleted my laptop’s drive instead of the MyCloud by accident

good luck

It’s coming BACK to life…
Doing a firmware update now

Glad it worked out for you.

It’s Alive!
It’s Alive !!!
Muhah ha ha haaaaaaaa!
almost … still not showing up in my windows explorer

Annnnnnnnnd it’s DEAD again! Wasn’t satisfied with 99% functionality so I kept messing with it and NOW I got damaged sectors on the drive.
