Unusably Slow After Updating Firmware

Alright here I’n not exactly at the most coherent of minds right now but here’s the gist of it.

Tried updating my firmware just now. Updated it but got an error message saying it has failed and I should check whether there are red lights or something on it (they weren’t any). However the version on the Dashbord shows the latest version (that I tried to update to) and even a check for update showed that it’s updated to the latest version.

So naturally I tested thing out. My drives are still there on Windows Explorer and they show and I can access them and all that but access is debatable here. While I can see the files, accessing (even going to them) them takes ages. The closest I got to testing something was double clicking a video file and the only. But I can at least see them even if going to this takes forever. Going to deeper folders seems to be hard if not impossible.

I am unable to access the Dashboard, because the browser is stuck in some sort of very very long loading screen whenever I try the IP. Not even an error message it’s just taking so long to access and it never gets there. I am however 100% confident that it’s still using the same IP (and I know said IP) because I just set it up back to static with that IP (I changed it briefly to DCHP when I was updating) after I was done with the update. It also shows up on my router page with that IP so there’s that.

But man it’s like super slow to the point where it’s next to useless right now. My computer can still see it though and knows it’s working.

So what should be my next step? Cut the power? Not being able to access Dashboard is a pain.

Also, just wanted to say that navigating the folder in Windows Explorer is really really slow and not just the waiting for the page is slow. It used to be instantaneously fast and seamless.

Also, the browser just gives up trying to access the Dashboard after awhile. Opening up WD Discovery and clicking “Configure” doesn’t do anything either as it just makes your browser try to access the IP.

For what’s it’s worth, WD Discovery does see it and so does everything else. It’s just impracticality slow and the Dashboard is inaccessible.

Really love this thing so I’m kinda depressed because this is going to be a lot of work and trouble one way or another,

Hi, sorry to read that your drive is not working as intended after the firmware update. We have passed this along to support.

Well thanks then. I’m kinda hoping it’s just indexing stuff around at this point or something. I’m going to sleep on it and maybe cut the power in the morning as I’m at a loss to what to do (I know there’s risk associated with that) minus doing a factory reset, which already involves losing everything there as it is.

Okay, some good news. After sleeping on the issue, it appears to be working closer to normal again unlike the super slow sluggish state it was yesterday. I am also able to access Dashboard (which has changed after the firmware update) sometimes.

However they are certain times where I can’t access Dashboard for some reason. The same goes for the iOS My Cloud app. There will be certain periods where these just don’t work over the hour or so I have observed. I have resetted my router just in case.

If anybody have any advice on some precautions now that I have access to Dashboard again, I would appreciate it.

It looks like mostly everything is going okay but I’m going to monitor it for the next few days and see whether something goes wrong because it wasn’t without hiccups this morning. I’m also updating my backups just in case. Nothing unusual in the transfer speeds.
