Update Firmware?

I received my MBL Duo yesterday and got all my files copied over. RAID 1 conversion has been ongoing and is at 44% after 12 hours, which I believe is normal. So far so good.

Questions:

  1. It came preinstalled with FW version 02.30.18-273. I read a few posts about other users losing internet connectivity after installing FW version 02.30.19-277 and I am leaning toward not updating the FW at the moment. Any reasons why the 02.30.19-277 FW update may make my experience better? If so, would you folks recommend the automatic update, manual update via browser or manual update via linux (is this possible and can someone direct me to the instructions for the linux update)?

  2. Current Media Server Version is 2.2.2.6492A. I connected the duo to my WD TV Live via WiFi and I see all the folders (times 2) and this doesn’t seem right to me. Has anyone else had this issue before and are there any solutions? Media Server version update maybe? Or, could this be because RAID 1 configuration is still rebuilding?

I had a couple of bad experiences with FW updates on the MBL over the past 10 days and I’m trying to avoid running into similar situations. So far, with the limited time I have spent with the Duo, I am happy and I hope it will continue this way. Thanks in advance and looking forward to hearing your suggestions.

Hi, check the release notes for the firmware, if you don’t need the updates you don’t need to do it.

Thanks. I checked the release notes already and I’m thinking the DLNA certification may help but I’m still not sure about it and I definitely don’t want it if I’m going to lose internet connectivity to the rest of my networked devices.

My MBL Duo seems to be serving the purpose for now. So, I may just skip this update.

You can hold off updating for now. In the April timeframe we will be releasing a larger update to improve the DLNA server along with other issues. This should resolve some of the issues you reported.

Thank you Tony, will wait for the next release.
