Logging in over ssh I could use the standard apt-get update and upgrade to get my softare to a newer and probably safer state. Doing so will of course void warranty (which is probably too old anyway) but I’m mainly afraid of breaking any dependencies for WD:s software. Have anyone else here tried doing an update this way? Did it work? Do you now have a pretty brick?

I have never tried since this is not supported. Lets see if another user has tried and can share some ideas with us.
Not a good idea since WD use a lot of custom packages. It is going to mess your firmware.
I had a feeling that this might be a Bad Idea ™ but hope springs eternal. It doesn’t feel that great to have software that old hooked up to the internet as well…
