Updating to OS5 Worst Mistake Since Owning WD NAS

Well, I do own two WD NAS and after the update the Dashboard on one no longer shows free space, it just has the word free. I own a DL2100 and a PR4100.

I had an external drive connected to the DL2100 for additional space which I use to backup computers. Well that no longer works. It shows the external drive almost empty and will not allow writes to it. I took it off and connected it to my PC and all the files are there.

I cannot create cloud accounts. I go though the motions of inviting and it tries to create an account and then it states that it already exists and to sign into it. Once I sign on, it states I have no NAS drives assigned to my account.

A total mess. I waited until the last minutes when I started getting email about discontinuing support for OS3 and I hadn’t updated due to all the bad reports on OS5.

I see, that the OS5 is still terrible!!

Maybe like other are doing, time to move on to a different NAS! I don’t recommend anyone get a WD NAS setup!!!

Like many are doing, it seems that Synology seems to be the best choice.

WOW - that sounds like a terrible experience. I can only say that I got my PR4100 with OS5 installed. I have not had issues with the device. I do find it to have a Mickey Mouse interface. Not many options; but as far as a basic NAS works the OS5 has been fairly decent. Perhaps the issues mostly occur when you upgrade the devices. I recommend to new users to upgrade to OS5 prior to using the device. Also I should mention I did not get the chance to actually use OS3 ever.

After some research on the internet I was able to again use an external USB drive. The drive that I was using was previously formatted in ExFat in order to use it both on a PC and MAC.

OS5 doesn’t supports USB drives in ExFat and once I re-formatted to NTFS I an able to us it again. I haven’t tried use a pen drive which are normally formatted in Fat32 to see if those work.

Both of my NASs are now displaying free space available.

I still have to see if I can fix my Cloud problem. It works with a new email address but fails with the email address that I have use for years. I am able to use my old email address on one of my NAS, but not the other. Problems still exists.

WD support was of no help and and refuses to work on the cloud problem. The problem is something on their servers.
