Upgrade options

I was running Plex on an EX4 until support was dropped by PLEX.

I’ve been finding my current server (iMac 2013 12GB RAM) to be slow, and I’m often getting connection drops when accessing PLEX via my smartTV (local network). Dropbox, GoogleDrive, TimeMachine backups all seem to take resources with the iMac looking like it’s struggling to run PLEX

Would anyone advise upgrading the EX4 to a PR4100 so that I can enable PLEX to running on the NAS drive.
Queries.

  1. I’ve got 4 x 3TB red drive HD’s running in RAID5 config. Can these simply be added to the PR4100 and maintain my current data? any tips on an order to set configurations, swap drives, etc would be appreciated.
  2. i was somewhat disappointed that PLEX dropped the EX4 as a supported device after I had only had it running for a few months. is the PR4100 the most ‘future proof’ regarding its performance or are other devices better suited?

many thanks in advance

Hello,

Does resetting the drive helps with the performance? If you haven’t test that, please do.

I’ve tried a reset, reboot and (should have done this earlier) also stopped and removed the Plex App that was on the EX4.

The connections issue problems have stopped, so maybe the EX4 was the cause. Thank you
