I can’t find anything in the documentation about this. I have a 4 TB Sharespace and would like to upgrade itr to 8TB. Can I just replace the 1 TB drives with 2 TB drives? I understand that the drives need to be WD, but will this work?
So here it is a week later and still no reply. Does anyone from WD even read these or I am I stuck having to go through tech. support to ask a simple question?
I read them, but I’m not tech support. As I understand it, it is not recommended to replace the drives with anything that is not exactly the same - in size and family. You could try to do it with different size drives of the same family, but nobody will guarantee that it will work.
Thanks for the reply. Just thought that the boxes were pretty much the same, just different size drives in them.
The firmware looks for the specific product Id of the drive. So, I’m not sure if it’s different with different sizes. That’s why I was saying that you could try it.
Just a tip from tech support… make sure you’re running the latest firmware, and make sure you put Caviar Green drives into the WD ShareSpace. You should be all set for 8GB then.
still no answer to the question…
is it possible to replace the 4x 1tb green drives with 4x 2tb green drives and would it work flawlessly?
Thanks
It looks like you did get a reply, and it said that you could do what you’re asking.
