Upgrading MyCloud Mirror to MyCloud EX4100

Hello,

It is possible to moving 2 drives in RAID 1 from my MyCloud Mirror to my new MyCloud EX4100 without lost data ?
Next I want to add 2 new drives in the MyCloud EX4100 and migrate from RAID 1 to RAID 5 without lost data ?

Thanks,

Sorry for my poor English.

Hi, the My Cloud mirror and the EX4100 does not have the same firmware or hardware so I don’t think is going to work.

As per the user manual changing the RAID modes will delete the information and the settings.

Always a good idea to make one or more backups before doing any raid changes.

raid 1 is not a backup so having an external USB disk for backup will help protect you later.

rebuilding a raid can take days and the last thing you want is another disk to fail while that is going on.

I tried going from a EX2 to my DL4100 and had to default to the USB backup.
I was trying to save the config setting files between the 2 units types and as lluna said the hardware/firmware may make doing the not possible.

you may want to test doing the backup -restore on the EX4100 with only small data as they may not be the same process you use on the Mycloud.

My DL4100 restore took over 24 hours via USB - I am sure loading part of the data back over the network would have been faster.

Hello,

Thanks for yours replies.

I’ve 4 TB (2 drives of 4TB in RAID 1 mode) of datas. What is the faster/better way ?
Backup datas from my MyCloud Mirror on external drive and restore the backup on EX4100 ? Or try migrating to RAID 5 mode (4 drives of 4TB) ?

NB : I’m backing up all my datas on external drive.

Thanks,
