Using Wireless Adaptor on my WDTV Live Media Player

Hi,
I have a slightly older WDTV Live HD MP (P/n: WDBAAP0000NBK-01 Serial No: [[DELETED]] Firmware: 1.06.43_V) and am trying to have it connect wirelessly to my home Network. I have purchased a USB Adaptor (D-Link N300 DWA-131) which is in the Approved List on this site, and plugged it into one of the USB slots. Nothing… Tried to reboot the Device (via the ‘paper clip’ method :-)) but still no change. haven’t yet tried the “Reset to Factory Defaults” until I was sure this was the only option.
Any advice on how to get the Device to recognize the USB Wireless Adaptor?
Should I just be able to have the device “Automatically Detect” these settings?
Do I have to update the Workgroup name in Network settings to match my Home Network name?
Hoping you guys can provide some assistance on this
TIA,
Terry.

This model of WD TV is so old it’s unlikely any currently sold WiFi adapter is going to work. Those WiFi manufacturers change the chipsets all the time to follow cheaper supply chains, and those require different drivers than the ones coded into the firmware of the WD.

Agree, adaptor may not work. If you cannot set up WDTV as wired, you could get a media bridge to pick up your 5G wireless signal as the.bridge converts the wireless signal so it can have a wired output to plug into wired input to devices such as is on a WDTV.

Thanks guys. I suspected as much. I will look into the suggested converter approach, as the Media Centre satisfies my needs in all other aspects. I guess I can always run a CAT 5 cable across my lounge . Appreciate your help on this.

The key to the adapters is the hardware revision. Check the list of approved adapters and make sure you get the correct hardware version as well.
