Hi All,
Hoping someone can help with a little problem I am having.
I’ve been tasked to rebuild a “server” currently running Win Server 2008 R2 with Win 2012 R2. When I boot from the installation media it does not detect any drives, even though the drives are detected by the BIOS. If I run the setup from within Windows (like I am doing an upgrade) it detects the drives fine but if I actually try to install the OS this way it just goes into a reboot loop. I was hoping this was going to be a simple driver issue but no drivers appear to be available on the WD site for internal drives. If I boot to Server 2008 installation media from the BIOS the drives are there.
I read inanother post while researching that there was a workaround:
Ok, I seem to have found a workaround for the issue. I tried to install Windows XP onto the drive and it found the drive, formatted it, and started installing with no problem. I broke the XP install and tried it with my Windows 7 disc and this time it found the drive with the partition that was created by Windows XP.
This doesnt seem like a great solution to me, is there any other way to get the drives detected in Server 2012? Thanks in advance on this.
