VelociRaptor Hybrid or Momentus XT Hybrid

Hello,

VelociRaptor Hybrid or Momentus XT Hybrid?

I am not a tech guy, but I am a longtime owner of MANY WD internal and external hard drives (I believe in them in 15 years never had one fail) and I appreciate your patience with me, but my friend suggested I put this well reviewed Seagate Momentus XT 750GB 2.5 inch notebook or laptop drive into my desktop tower, that is not a problem with an adapter, but I see Velociraptor comes in hybrid.

Some questions…With the velociraptor hybrid drive, if the SSD portion of the drive fails while the operating system is being accessed, will that part of the OS be lost forever?

Next question…Is the velociraptor hybrid like the Seagate Momentus XT hybrid, does it automatically optimize or not? The XT does.

Next question…Is it a good idea to have a smaller, faster drive for the OS, and have a secondary internal or external drive for all your other stuff?

By the way I am on a pretty tight budget and am also looking at possible used drives, I just want the best my money can buy.

And does anyone really know how these hybrids work? I mean do they have like 4GB in the SSD part and how does all that work…I am just ending a run with a 12 year old pc, just bought a new USED one and want to supe it up as much as my money will allow…

OH…This is important to me right now…Does ANYONE know the differnces between the WD740GD-50FLA2 and WD740HLFS-FR and how well reviewed are they?

I know these are not hybrids, but they are on my radar as considerations, I tried but I can’t find what the differences are. I was thinking of maybe using one of these as my OS drive and all my other **bleep** on another somewhere, I don’t know…You tell me, what is best…

I mean with the VelociRaptor you get 10,000RPM’s, but with the Hybrids you get 7200rpm, BUT get part of the drive as SSD…I guess it depends on if the VelociRaptor automatically optimizes like the Momentus XT does…Please Help…I really appreciate your input.

Thanks So Much,

Randy

Hi there is no raptor hybrid they are a 10,000 rpm 2.5 drive in a 3.5 icepack with a warranty of 5 years. Your hybrid drive does not act like a true ssd drive and as a oem drive would have a 1 year warranty. The hybrid drive is under 100 $ Candian the 1 tb raptor would be closer to 250 $ so if you want a cheap drive go for the hybrid.
