I just purchased a WD Velociraptor 600GB and it is showing up at 1.5 G/s instead of the 3.0 my motherboard is supposed to support. I don’t see any jumpers on the drive. The bios is setup as AHCI. What would cause this? I put a jumper on pin 5-6 The computer is setup for AHCI. I have other drives that show as 3.0 GB/s. The motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H. It is very frustrating to purchase such an expensive drive and have it not perform at its best.
The WD6000HLHX is a SATA III (6 GB/s) drive, if your board ony supports SATA II (3 GB/s) you may use it without jumpers, or with a jumper in pins 5-6 to force the drive to be recognized at 3 GB/s. If you have the chance try installing the drive to another system, to compare results. If still detected as 1.5 GB/s you can take it back to the store or contact WD for a replacement.
