Video Cover Art

I feel cheated. The manual on the WD Elements Play clearly states “Video Cover Art Supported”. But this is not true. I’ve been going through all the posts here. Many people complain of the same issue. My question to Western Digital is this…Why don’t the video files have the ability to display Cover Art in Thumbnail mode? I would truly appreciate a reply from you.

Well, I’m not from WD, but I can answer:

They need to be inside the MP4 tags.  You can add them via tools like MP3tag.

…and if you use .mkv, etc?

UPDATE

I have now added cover art to an MP4 tag and it still doesn’t display the art.  The software I used was MetaX (I use an iMac).

I had previously done this using iTunes  - it didn’t work but I wasn’t sure if iTunes creates its own data or whether it would create a  standard tag.

Ugggh…  Sorry.    My fault:    I was not paying attention which forum / thread I was answering.   I was answering a question totally unrelated to yours…

Sorry!  :(

Same problem as everybody.

The WD Elements Play user notice confirms (page 7):
“Supports photo thumbnails, video cover art and music album art”

…so video cover art is definitely supported.

HOWEVER, when I choose the thumbnail view, it still won’t show folder images unlike any cheap media player on the market.

I can’t believe that I have paid the price I have paid for a WD media player that can’t even show folder images, when any cheaper versions can do it without any issues (WD TV had no problem). I thought WD meant higher quality.

If Western Digital doesn’t fix this issue properly with the next firmware update (which I hope will arrive SOON, come on WD, you got our money!) THEN I will be obliged to ban WD products from my home and adivse all my friends / family to do so.

It’s unbelievable…$150+ and not able to display folder images like planned.

Please act quickly, and you can consider me a happy customer. Do nothing, and I will never buy a Western Digital product again. Plus I will advise all my friends and familly and Facebook / Twitter followers to NEVER buy a WD home entertainment product.

Thanks and good luck for the fix!
