WD 1TB Elements help needed

Hi all, first post here and looking for some help.

I run a home server and replaced my 1TB elements for a 2 TB elements for back up use, so wanted to make use of the 1TB drive so removed it from the case and installed this into my server and was fine.

Now I was running out of space and have now updated the internal drive to a new WD Red 2TB which is up and running just fine.

So I thought drop the 1TB drive back in to the case and away we go. How wrong was I I have the drive re-fitted and it will not initialised. I can see the drive in Disc manger and the drive works fine if I plug it in through a SATA to USB lead and separate power supply.

What I have tried so far;

  1. reformatted drive with SATA to USB and then re-tried

  2. partition manger when in WD case same issue not initialised

The one think I thing I did when I had the drive in the server was to re-name the drive hence removed the WD and list of numbers from the drives name. So any ideas please or do I just buy a new SATA to USB case from e-bay and not worry about the WD case and board. As the drive is fine just will not work in the WD case and I think it is to do with the drive name that means the WD board doesn’t see it as a WD drive.

If anyone has a WD 1TB Elements drive I would like to know what the raw drive name is?

Thanks for the help.

Hello BryantI,

Unfortunately opening the drive case voids the warranty and hard drive repairs are not supported by WD. Maybe some of the other community users can chime in and give you some tips on how to fix your hard drive.
