One of my external 2 TB drives has died. It was sold by HP but they say it was manufactured by WD and provided the model number shown in the subject line.
The HP model is #HPBAAD0020HBK-NHSN and didn’t have any warranty remaining. A friend advised that my data is on the drive but is encrypted and that part was fried. I haven’t been able to locate another HP with the same model and a search on this site for the WD model didn’t show anything.
Unfortunately, of course, I hadn’t backed it up. The drive held about 20 years of family photos and 10 years of tax returns.
So I’m open to hear any suggestions. I’ve been all over Kijiji, eBay and other sites.
I don’t recommend replacing the circuit board. This is not a a recommended method for recovering data or drive functions. If you attempt to install a circuit board with a different firmware than the original, this may damage the hard drive further. If you need to recover the data on your drive, I recommend that you contact a data recovery company.
If the circuit board is fried it may be possible to make it usable. Check the posts by fzabkar he has guided people through bypassing a burned diode. You can also try sending him a PM. He is about the only person whe really understands the boards.
