I recently downloaded WD Backup so I could set up an automatic back-up facility on my My Cloud. However, when I try to set up a back up plan the software does not find my My Cloud, only Dropbox! I am very much at novice level with this and wonder how I can overcome this problem please?

The WD Backup program does not support the WD MY Cloud. From the WD Software (Software and Firmware Downloads | WD Support) page entry on the WD Backup program:

Instead you want to use the WD Smartware program that can also be downloaded from the WD Software (Software and Firmware Downloads | WD Support) page. Choose the Product Filter by Product option and select My Cloud to see a listing of software supported by/for the My Cloud.
