My 3 tb Caviar Black (WD3003FZEX-00Z4SA0) made loud grinding noises during the quick test on the DLGDIAG. It was not a metallic noise but more like there is something wrong with the head. Since this drive is a replacement for the same model that had a similar problem (it would make a lot of thunking noises upon accessing the drive), I am wondering if it is a problem with the data cable or computer itself. I don’t have another computer to test it on, but I probably could try another data cable or another port on the motherboard. Should I even attempt that or is this probably an issue that requires that I RMA the drive? I just got the hard drive, so this is rather annoying and would be additionally annoying to have to wait through the RMA process again. I wish I could just get my money back, but I got the original drive more than a year ago from a reseller.
Hi, is there a way that you can record the sound and share it?
I was actually able to get the issue resolved, but thank you for asking.
How did you “resolve” the grinding issue? I’ve had two WD HDs go from grinding noise to near death. Replaced a 2 TB drive Feb '16 with a 3 TB Black drive and now that one is failing.
