Hi, this is my first post here, sorry for an upsetting subject in fact I am now.
On 09-16 i filed a complaint to WD via email from website like this
"Hi, I just purchased WD TV Live, tried it with my WD World Edition and it works great but i cannot display the subtitle. everytime i press display on remote select subtitle it is always No subtitle appears. The movie i use is AVI and the subtitle file is SRT. I put both the AVI and SRT together in a folder. If i watch the movie on my pc using VLC or GOM the subtitle is perfectly shown. How to solve this?
One thing I really hate from purchasing WD is the Plug. I purchase and live in Indonesia but all WD i purchased is using US/UK Plug. Here in Indonesia the Plug is EU/KO version. I really hate to use the adaptor of all WD i have that I still have to manage an overstack/converter/adapter for it. I currently using 2 WD World edition ( you can see it on my account on WDC.com using this email) and this brand new WD TV Live (i’ll register it later) Now, where can i get the EU/KO version of the plug. It is really annoying. i want you to send me the EU/KO plugs right away, bill me if necessary ( if you care only profit & obeying customer satisfaction) or point me a place along with a contact person+phone to trade UK/US plug into EU/KO version. Please
Alex"
I had an auto responder confirming that my email reach WD. So, is there anybody can help me with my problem?
Done that Guy_K, all the subtitles are in identical name. Few works, mostly don’t works. the same subs and movie played in another player perfectly. I’m starting to regret why I purchased WD and they don’t even care that i submitted complaints after i purchased so many WD products, I still have 2 WD elements in the house.
I’m not familiar with the WD World Edition but how you connect to your files will also affect whether or not subtitles show.
Subtitles as separate files currently (and for the foreseeable future) only work via Network Shares. Like Guy says, if the filenames are the same for both SRT and AVI, your subtitles should display fine.
E.g.
awesomemovie.avi
and
awesomemovie.srt
However, if you connect via Media Server , external subtitles won’t display because subtitles are apparently not included in the current DLNA 1.5 server specification. This limitation applies to pretty much any media player.
The workaround would be to use MKVmerge GUI to re-mux the AVI and SRT into a single MKV file. That single file would stream with subtitles via Network Share AND Media Server without issue. Within MKVmerge, just ‘Add’ the AVI and SRT files to the Input box. You can specify language info for the audio and subtitle tracks or just hit ‘Start Muxing’.
To get MKVmerge, download MKVToolnix 4.0.0 from here (there are issues with MKVmerge 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3 with the latest official WDTV Live firmware - do not get those!):
so, if i use external drive rather than a media server i could get the subtitle prefectly shown?
You can use Net Shares instead of connecting via Media Server – so you can still get to your drive on the network. It’s the next selection down from Media Server and is the preferred way of connecting to network drives for many of us.

This is my files. SUB is supported right?
SUB subtitles can be in either text (txt) or SRT formats. The Live supports the SRT format, I do believe. Subtitle workshop can convert them (among other tools).
I didn’t read through this whole thread and I had a similar issue a few weeks back. Did you check and ensure that subtitles are on? This corrected my issue when I had it.
This Thread is NOT SOLVED YET. I still having the problem.

I did. all the *.sub on the pic I attached can’t be read by WD TV Live.
WD still not giving me any EU/KO plugs for th adaptor, not giving any info to purchase, no news.
Is that an enterprise do? Feels like this “I sell and I don’t care about the plugs, who told you to buy it anyway? You don’t like it you don’t buy it, WD doesn’t need you, you are just 1 customer to lost, i still have millions”
I wish there’s a real Nathan Ford on Leverage to complain it for.
