It runs non stop most of the time to the point that it’s un-useable. WD Photo can’t keep up with the work load!.
I mostly use my drive for photography. There are folders that I erases over a week ago and the still show in WD Photo! I have well over 225k picture which I guess is overwelminf the drive.
WD Needs to do some to address the tons of problems everyone is having with this drive!!
Too late to return it and an exchange will be the same problem.
I will need to go back to my smaller WD Live Duo which works much better but was very tight on space. My old drive is a 6tb Mirrored and the EX2 is the 8 TB mirrored.
WD Please fix the problems with the EX2. It’s all software related problems in the Firmware.
Give us the option to only having photos in WD Photo that are in the Public Folder and not the entire drive. I don’t want or need everything available in WD Photo and don’t want or Thumbnails on My Cloud which is another big drain on the drive.
It also irritates me to no end that when I open a folder in Windows explorer, I have no image previews. It only works when it feel like it! And if you do have Icon Images and gp tp details and sort in a defferent order you loose all you icons and it could be days before they show up.
Very frustrating!!! I have gotten off the drive and I’m back to a WD Live Duo.
With all due respect, everyone here seems to be complaing about the same or similar issues that I have. Everyone one that has called Technical support seems to just be frustrated with the answeres they are getting from WD. And spending countless hours getting no where.
WD has heard the same complaints over and over again and need to address them!
With my message I hope that Technical support does something to address these problems. I really don’t need to go through the same hasssle others have gone through to get no where.
All I want is for WD to fix the performance problems! And I am sure that they are aware of them. Enough people have already called in. WD just needs to fix them.
I respect your opinion, but I will pass on spending countless hours with Technical support explaining what they already know and also get no where.
Oh and I have tried all the typical stuff Tech Support will ask me to do. Like, is it plugged in, are the lights blinking, have you re-booted, both the drive and your PC, yada yada yada.
I have own just about every single NAS model that WD has put out and have never been so disatisfied with any of thier other models!

I know this is extreme, but can some legalese really remove your right to a judge or jury?
The firmware up does disable Cloud access and all the associated overhead, but i want and need Cloud access. WD needs a better way to support Cloud acesss without bring the drive down to it knees.
The firmware update still didn’t fix my problem where I don’t see picture icon on some folder and on others it’s very slow.
I think a good compromise besided completely killing Cloud, is to allow it, but for WD Photo App do it like they do for the Live Duo. Only thing in Public are setup for the App.
Another better option is to decide which Shares are transcoded. I have four shares on my drive. Three of them do not need to be transcoded. One of them I use to for backups from other PCs (Don’t use SmartWare). I don’t need that share in WD Photos. And what up with showing empty folders that don’t have pictured in WD Photo?
Most of my other shares are also don’t need to be in WD Photos. And some user may not want some Shares in WD Photos, such as private pictures.
I just want either Public to be in WD Photo or my main NAS Share which is the main one that is access from all my PCs and where I do all my work from. So an opt at the Share level would be very welcome instead of just entirely killing Cloud. Dah, Cloud is one of the resaons for buying the drive!
This drive just drives me crazy. How come I can’t still see my photo Icons? Too bad I can’t place a sample picture.
Drive still not good enough to use as my daily worker. I think the best solution for now is to work with a locally attached USB 3 drive and copy at the end of the day to the NAS.
Thank is until WD comes up with a better solution that killing all Cloud access. And fixing the Photo Icon Displays.

I have an 8TB drive with 4 shares (4TB Mirrored). It’s a big drive. I organize my photos by year and month. Pictures go back to 1996. How am I expected to have only a few directories on a 4TB drive. As I had mentioned I have over 225,000 Pictures not to mention that I amd going all digital and all bank statements and payroll slips are on drive.
Along with countless PDF ibn different directories based on what they are for.
Still need a lot of improvemnts!
Maybe I need to get 4 1TB drive to not exceed the number of directories Or do I even have to go down to GB drives ?
This goes back to why not have an option of wich shares you want viewable on Remote Access. I only need one out teh the four shares available remote.
