WD HD Media Player won't recognize my WD 2tb external....PLEASE HELP

Hi,

I am new to this forum but Im glad I found it.  I recently bought a WD HD media player for my TV and a WD 2tb External Harddrive.  Once I was done loading the External I connected it to the media player to play some movies that i have on there,  ( have movies in MKV, AVI, and MPEG4), but the media player said “No storage device” and when i clicked on the view photos icon the media player said “Unrecognized USB device”.   SO, i disconnected the external and loaded a movie onto a 4GB thumb drive i have and hooked that up to the Media player and the media player read the thumbdrive perfectly.  DO I need to reformat my external? if I do, how? and will I lose all the stuff i backed up?

Pertinent information

 - i have my external connected to my Mac, but it didn’t require any reformatting, i just plugged int he USB and the mac recognized it.

  • I also have the thumbdrive working on my mac, so I’m assuming this isn’t a problem

  • ALSO. I am using the external as my Time Machine backup for my mac, Time Machine is basically the program mac uses to back everything up, i dont know if this is the problem.

Please help.

Thanks again.  I have email notification on so if there is nay more information needed just ask and ill get back to you as soon as possible.

Journaling isn’t supported… I suspect that’s your issue:

How do I disable HFS+ Journaling on Mac formatted drive that’s connected to a WD TV Media Player?

I tried your idea.

Followed it step by step and its right my harddrive is journaled

BUT, when i tried to disable the journaling i got an error message that said “journaling could not be disabled”.

Any idea what i did wrong?

That part I can’t help with because I’ve never used a Mac.

Perhaps if you shut everything down (safely), disconnect the drive, power up the Mac, and then connect the drive then the KB steps might work?

I’m thinking there might be open files or something like that that might be preventing the Journaling from being turned off.

Hey I was able to figure it out.

I had to erase everything on the external and reformat it without journaling, im about to try it now, hopefully it works.

good call on the journaling.

dang it,

i tried it without the journaling and the media player still wont recognize the drive.

any other ideas? or any other links i  can go to that might help?

thanks man!
