WD icon appears then disappears in a few seconds

I know very little about the inner workings of a computer. I’ll be as detailed as possible. I have a mac book pro. 10.6.8. I guess that’s snow leopard? I have a WD My Passport for Mac. The 1 terabyte one. I’ve had it since late 2015. It worked with Time Machine on my computer perfectly fine. About 2 weeks ago I plugged it in and it blinked, the icon appeared on my desktop, then disappeared, and when I tried to do anything the computer said it wasn’t plugged in. I tried 3 USB cables and both ports on my computer. I assumed the hard drive was just broken. I bought the My Passport Ultra today and it did the same thing. Anyone know what it might be?

It is possible you are having power issues with your USB ports.

I recommend you try on another computer (if possible) just as a troubleshooting step to verify if you have a problem with the drives or with the original computer.
