Hi, sorry not possible, it is limited by firmware.
I believe that the limiting factor was that it had to be a WD disk, however somebody has reported that they recently fitted a seagate. The limiting factor may be the size of the disk as there is not a lot of room. I guess you will have try it out and see if it works.
Actually, he said it was an Hitachi drive, not a Seagate.
No it was a seagate on a different post.
Just replaced my live hub internal drive with a seagate drive. I know this is an old post so not sure if WD upgraded firmware for othher drives since then. however those who are looking to downgrade there drive rather than upgrade i know for sure that the Seagate Momentus 5400.2 60gb drive works internally ST96812AS.
On the link above scroll down the page to near the bottom to see the reference to the seagate drive. I am posting on a tablet and it does not give me all the lithium options.
No worries, I was referencing the more recent post on this subject. I still don’t see the value in being able to put a smaller drive in except as a replacement for a failed drive. What most of us would like to do is replace the OEM 1tb drive with something larger from any manufacturer.
Personally I did it because the smaller size was also cheapest and I have a NAS I can stream from.
