WD Live - setup / movie info problems

Hello,

I’m hoping someone can help as I’m struggling to do what I think should be very simple – seeing film metadata. Previously I used my PS3 to play files from my NAS but with lots of films I found we spent half our time using an iPad to check IMDB rather than actually watching things!!

So, having bought an original WD live (pre-streaming media which was unable to do what I wanted) I have just purchased one of the latest SMP ones.

My setup is simple, everything is wired (gigabit) I have a Synology DS212J NAS and a WD Live SMP – I have setup the media library and pointed it to the films folder on the NAS. It has indexed the files, however when I browse to the folder I can only see the thumbnail – regardless of the view settings. Even the most detailed view, where it has a space for director, overview etc is empty.

Can someone please point me in the right direction? I was hoping I could just plug this in, point it at the right folder and let it work its magic!

I have a PC upstairs, running mymovies and this works perfectly – I was hoping the WD Live could do the same…

Many thanks

Mike

Metadata isn’t used for FOLDERS.   Only for FILES.

So if you’re putting every movie in its own folder, you’re not going to see metadata.

You’ll have to go into the folder, so as to see the file, before you’ll see the metdata.

If that still doesn’t show it, then you probably don’t have metadata files.

By the way, your post is in the wrong forum. This forum is for the 2009 model WDTV Live HD and 2010 model WDTV Live Plus.

The forum for the 2011 WDTV Live Streaming Media Player is here:

Sorry about that - is it possible to move this post to the right forum? Or shall I repost my question?

The movie files each need to be in their own folder (due to mymovies running upstairs). When you say go into each file, I am already doing that (by going to videos/films/filmname but cannot see metadata - the text areas (director etc) are empty. It has indexed the media library (and has thumbnails) - what should I try next?

I mean that you actually need to descend into the folder.   Only when the file itself is active will you see metadata.

Also, verify that the metadata XML files are actually present in the folder.

Fairzy2.  I have my TV shows and movies setup the same way as you.

I have installed the theme Mojo on my WDTV SMP.  I have learnt to use Thumbgen.  I have turned Media Library “Off”.  I have set my slide show delay to 5 minutes.

I create my own meta data and sheets using ThumbGen.

There is a thread about it here:

It takes a little messing around but when all set up properly it will do exactly what you want.

However you cannot do meta data or other sheets for folder files (eg The Village Series 1).  The sheets do show up when you use a folder for each TV episode (eg The Village S1E02).

Thank you for this - I’ll have a read through now
