Wd - lol!

Haven’t visited for a while so thought I’d see if theres a usable firmware release yet.

lol!

How do they manage to get it so wrong, time and time again …:smileyvery-happy: :confounded:

edit: just visited the wdtv live streaming forum and its the same story there, new firmware has made the device unusable for many - unbelievable!

That’s not true. I upgraded and I use mine everyday for both Hulu and Netflix, and it’s playing every movie file I throw at it - including AVIs and MP4s.  So, to say that the upgrade is making the devices unusable is misleading.

For every WD user on here with problems, there are many others whose devices work well for them. I have a 4TB WDMC and a WD TV Live, both running the latest firmware. They both work perfectly and do everything I ask of them. The odd problem here and there has been solved by the helpful people in this forum.

This firmware revision does look pretty bad for alot of people, it is making the device unusable. What I find hard to take is the lack of feedback or acknowledgement from WD, not even a ‘we are aware of problems and suggest you don’t update until we resolve them’ message from them or even to pull the update till they know what the issue is rather than let more people suffer. That is unnaceptable. It seems like to solve alot of problems with the devices is that you have to turn off certain features to get the thing to work, again not acceptable, you buy a product and expect every feature to work, not certain ones. (The indexing slowdowns for one)

I can understand peoples frustration because I’ve been there myself and am continuining to suffer with problems 7 months on, now whether there is serious firmware issues or manufacturing problems it should be acknowledged. WD are doing themselves any favours and their reputation is suffering because of it. I can see alot of people being left with an unusable product in the not too distant future when WD bring out a new one and stop supporting the old one. It happens alot in this industry.

You can’t help but wonder if these firmware releases are fully tested across all possible set ups before release. I understand firmware revisions can have problems but it seems to be that every release has more problems than the last.

We just want to know what is going on, it feels like an unfinished product that they are still trying to fix a year later with dodgy firmwares.

We are the customers at the end of the day and if I was to charge for every hour I’ve wasted solving problems with my device back to WD then I’d be able to buy a top of the line NAS and kit it out with at least 20TB of drives.

I don’t think it’s too much to ask for a fully working product after spending our hard earned cash on it. To say to others that the product is working fine for you doesn’t help the OP out at all, they are obviously as frustrated as many people are, saying that your device is working fine is just rubbing his nose in it.

It’s not misleading to say that the update is causing problems for loads of people because it clearly is and to say that it’s the odd problem here and there isn’t actually true, there are hundreds of posts on here and other forums listing problems with even basic things like the dashboard and cloud access since the update. I have rang WD on several occasions over the past week and have had no solution to the issues, in fact the support line doesn’t seem to know whats happening. I rang them the day after the update started causing me issues and the operator didn’t even know there had been an update, they were also supposed to ring me back and they never. I now am in the middle of documenting every issue I have had since this update and sending it directly to a WD Engineer to try and sort.
