I’ve had my 2TB WD My Cloud NAS for about 5 years. I also have a 3TB external USB drive connected for occasional incremental backups. It has been working fine until sometime between my last backup in April and today, the WD My Cloud NAS drive decided it wouldn’t recognise the USB drive any more.
After some trial and error testing I think I’m determined that the NAS drive only recognises external drives attached by USB 2. My 3TB external drive is USB 3. I tried another USB 3 portable drive and it wouldn’t recognise that one either. I have an SSD in an external drive enclosure connecting via USB A - USB A. I tried this drive with the NAS and it wouldn’t recognise it. I took the SSD out of the enclosure and connected it to the NAS via a SATA - USB 2 adaptor and it recognised it just fine.
I am totally confused and don’t know what to try. Has anyone else found their external USB drives are no longer recognised by their WD My Cloud NAS?
My WD My Cloud is running FW 5.26.300.
