I recently bought the above piece of kit and set it up, including a couple of shares. Having restarted my laptop, I found I could no longer make my laptop back up, or even see the back I had created. Having researched the issue, I decided I would perform a full factory reset, so that I could (record and) be sure of every step I took, when setting up, and thereby instill a degree of robustness, before building up too much data on the drive.
The nub of the matter is that the reset started, and ran for several hours, then I looked back again at http://wdmycloud/UI/ only to find the timing “clock” on the reset had effectively restarted. That iteration, having left the UI window open on my laptop since, has been running 19 hours 50 minutes and counting. The “Capacity” suggests 0kb free, and the “Content Scan” either whows the symbol - or Error.
How long should I leave this doing its’ thing, and/or what do you suggest my next steps might be?
the full can take a vert long time as it writes multiple patterns to the entire disk to prevent data recovery if you are getting rid of the device. Not sure total time but it does not seam unreasonable yet, but getting close.
for future reference the quick option is the same but just delete files. this would be a better option in this case
Thanks Larry. I’ll try to be patient until morning then.
Should the clock still be counting at that stage, what would my next steps be? Apologies for the additional question, but I might as well get most value from your participation.
Just for completeness I thought I would update this thread since contacting WD Support.
The upshot is, having followed the pin reset instructions, whilst on the telephone to Support, the drive rebooted with a red LED, and was diagnosed as defective. So, I have another drive coming, under warranty. There were no awkward discussions around the replacement.
Has anyone else experienced this sort of failure with this product?
