I’ve had an N900 for about a year or so now and it’s worked well until I upgraded my Macbook Pro to Mavericks the other day. Now, I’m able to connect to the network drive in my N900, and I was even able to create a folder. But when I tried copying a file into that folder I got the following error:
“The operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occurred. (error code -50)”
It did place the file there almost immediately, but it was 0 bytes. I was unable to delete the empty file. I cannot overwrite it. I cannot write to the drive at all from my Mac.
I was able to delete the file using my iPad and WD My Cloud but it seems like something is broken with the N900 and OS X Mavericks.
I’ve tried rebooting all devices. Turning off AFP and turning it back on again. I do have the latest firmware for the N900. I’m really not sure what to do next. Any help would be appreciated, because as of this moment there’s little i can do with this drive other than watch the movies I already have.
I assume the drive name (to be clear, we’re talking about the internal drive within the N900) is called NetworkStorage, because that’s what I see in the side panel of finder.
When I try reconnecting to it with the smb address you indicated (**smb://MyNetN900/NetworkStorage) **I get the following error:
“There was a problem connecting to the server “MyNetN900”. The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again.”
I’m definitely in a little over my head here, but this solution doesn’t feel right to me. I’ve never had to manually connect to the drive. It’s always just showed up on my network.
My concern was escalated to tech support. They tried to contact me but missed me and left an email for me to call them back. I haven’t had the opportunity to do that, but if this helps you, here’s the contact info:
“If you are not sure of your schedule, you can also call us at your convenience at 1-800-275-4932. We are available Monday-Thursday 7:00 am to 7:00 pm Pacific Time and Fridays 7:00 am to 5:00 pm Pacific Time.”
Good luck. I’ve been too busy to pursue this for the moment, but first chance I get I’ll follow up with them and look for a resolution. If you find one in the mean time, please report back.
So, I still haven’t had a chance to call into tech support. Just been too busy lately. HOWEVER… I don’t know why I didn’t think of this as a stopgap solution before.
I don’t imagine this is the most secure option in the world, but I logged into the admin panel on the N900, went to Storage Setup, and turned on FTP, adding a username and password. This has allowed me a means to transfer files onto the drive without error. It’s not exactly elegant, but it works for now.
Just thought I’d share this workaround in case it helps someone.
Same issues, uploaded files but cannot delete on Mavericks.
I also can’t access my drive from WD2Go.
A) issues with the java from loading in Safari, but when using Firefox, the menu loads but then I get a message saying the server cannot mount because WEBDav cannot be enabled.
I bumped it to tech support via email, but no reply yet…any help?
This same issue has caused me a load of problems and many hours of trying to get around it. But essentially what I’ve found is that it is a specific issue related to Mavericks and the way it connects to an SMB network share (apparently apple has come up with a new and better way of doing it, which doesn’t work with some SMBs).
To get around this there is a workaround of forcing mavericks to connect in the ‘old’ way. The below link describes this much better than I can… Enjoy
