WD Product Replacement Is Horrible!

I want to post this to express my frustration with the warranty replacement products that I have received over the past year.  Four RMA’s were issued since December 2012 for 500 Gb Blue Caviar internal drives.  I paid for shipping each time at the cost of $20 and each time I was sent a rectified drive which failed within a four to six month period.  I am now on the fourth drive which is a noisy and also has several sector issues.  Each time I call for an RMA and get this kind of garbage being sent to me.  Now I back where I started, yet again… and I am also sick and tired of people apologizing to me for the inconvenience.  Just send me a product that is new and functions and no more of this rectified garbage.

I have been asking for someone in management with some authority, but for some reason I keep getting a supervisor.  Enough already.  Just make this happen!

Hi you should only have to pay shipping on the first RMA any more RMA’s on the same drive shipping is covered both ways. Sorry but this is a user forum and we can not do much about what drive WD sends you.

I had a 500gb AAKS die on me and i was sent a recertified one and it started to develop bad secotrs…:frowning: I don’t like refurbished drives. Always remember that refurbs have “power on hours” from previous use…

Hi well as we all know it is not only hard drives that get recertified, buy a 800 $ video card have a fan go in 3 months RMA it you get a recertified card back. Myself I have had good luck with recertified drives I have RMAed 2 300 gig raptors or course this was almost 2 years ago but both drives do not have one error or any problems. Recertified drives get tested each one goes through a series of test’s before it is sent out. A new drive they are batch tested they may test any number of drives but not all of them so in reality a recertifed drive should be better. But I guess it is the same as anything if you want no problems and want to protect your data  maybe the cheapest drive is not the way to go.

So it seems i am not the only one chasing WD for getting a better drive  as RMA…i really c u r s e myself for getting a WD now :manmad:

Hi-

To all concerned:

I strongly recommend that you try a different SATA cable, if you have not already. A few years ago I went through more than one replacement drive before I realized that the cable was at fault, and causing the drives to show bad sectors. I am not saying that this is the situation for any of you, but it is definitely something to check when these symptoms occur repeatedly.
