WD Sync - is there a log file?

Hi, and thanks for reading this.
The WD Sync program is working pretty well for me, but I now have 33 files (and slowly growing) that won’t sync. However, I can’t find a reason why they won’t sync. It just says “Unable to sync will try again soon”, so it is continually looping around and retrying this list of files.
They are innocuous files - a few pdf’s, some docx’s and asp (text) files, for example.
Is there a log somewhere which tells me in detail what the actual cause of the problem is?
Thanks in advance for any advice,
Phil

Hi,

in order to better assist you, could you provide the operating system you have installed on this computer.

I believe there is but I can’t remember where to find it right now.

When I have this problem, I ususally either sign back in / out, and if that doesn’t work (it works maybe half the time), access the UI page, go to Settings > Cloud Access > Configure > Rebuild. If that doesn’t work, Settings > Media > Rebuild. Takes a while and will rescan and rebuild all thumbnails, but usually gets it working again.

I love WD Sync, makes my work and home life so much easier (sync files back and forth), but it’s a bit quirky sometimes, especially to troubleshoot if it “breaks”

Hi, and thanks for your interest, It’s Windows 10.

Thanks very much for the suggestions. I tried the following:

Logged out of WD Sync
Settings > Cloud Access > Configure > Rebuild
Logged back in

This didn’t work. I then went into Settings > Media, but I can’t see a Rebuild option anywhere on that page. This sounds like it could well be the right solution if only I could get access to the facility! I did check other menu options in the settings page, just in case.

If it’s any help, the firmware version is current: WDMyCloud v04.04.05-101 : Core F/W

Any further suggestions would be most welcome.

Thanks again for your help.

Phil

That’s strange, I have a the same firmware version. I’m not at home yet but when I am I’ll send a screenshot.

See the following screenshot from a v4.x firmware single bay My Cloud showing the Rescan and Rebuild buttons under Settings > Media > DLNA Server.

One could also access the Twonky Administration page (typically http://wdmycloud:9000) to access the Twonky Administration screen that has various options not included within the My Cloud Dashboard. There are options to Restart Server and Rescan Content Folders under Advanced.

Ok yes, that was really helpful. The buttons only appear when you have “Media Streaming” set to “on”, which I didn’t have. I’ve now been able to “Rebuild” and “Rescan”, but still no joy.

However, I have cracked it now. I can expand on this (with some interim events and steps taken) if anyone else is interested, but I ended up un-installing and re-installing the WD Sync program. All is now fine.

Thanks again to you guys for your time, interest and advice. I have learned a lot from your suggestions.

Phil
