I have been using this product for about 8 months with absolutely zero problems. All of a sudden, my main hard drive with al of my movies stopped working when plugged into WD Live. Tried plugging hard drive into 3 different computers and no computer will not recognize it. All it does is make clicking noises now. I thought for sure the hard drive went bad and I would replace under warranty. I plugged another hard drive with some movies into WD Live and a day later, that hard drive has same problem. Both external hard drives are WD and both less than a year old. Anyone heard of this happening? I plan on calling customer support on Monday but anted to ask on here. Just seems like my WD Live player is destroying anything plugged into it. Thanks!
Are they USB powered? Or do they have an external power supply?
I believe the WDTV USB ports don’t really have the power to drive external drives well – they pretty much need their own power supplies to run reliably.
Underpowering them and not safely removing them seems to be corrupting many users’ drives.
External power supply. Tried 2 different power sources. I safely remove them which is why i’m surprised 2 drives are broken. I can understand 1, but 2 makes it seem that something is wrong with the media player.
