How do you know it’s not booting? Could it be that it’s started up, but the VIDEO isn’t being seen any more?
How are you connected? HDMI / Component / Composite? If HDMI, try Component or Composite.
I changed the cable from HDMI to component video cable and it worked! I can’t thank you enough :manvery-happy:
One thing I noticed after I reset the defaults and switched back to HDMI is that I’m now getting digital audio for my iso’s without using a TOS optical cable. Unfortunately I still need the TOS optical for my MKV files. It is an improvement from the last stable version of firmware for sure. Thanks again!
Tried it steps 1-6 twice and used a different USB drive the second time. The only thing that works is the power and USB port light. It still will not boot anymore! What do I do now or who do I contact? Thanks.
If both LEDs are on, then it’s possible that your WDTV is actually booting, but is having HDMI handshaking issues. If you’re willing to troubleshoot a bit, you can try disconnecting and reconnecting the HDMI cable while the WDTV is on to force it to redo the handshaking. If that doesn’t work, try connecting via composite or component. You should be able to see the user interface in composite or component and then downgrade to a previously working firmware version.
Can you tell me what model TV you have? Thanks.
*> I got it to work now by switching from HDMI to component cable and then back to HDMI. I have a Panasonic Plasma.> The ISO menu worked for the first ISO file I tried to play. Now I can’t play any ISO’s. Just get a blank screen with ISO’s.
Well, I tried playing some old revision3 mp which used to play with audio at normal speed and the video at 2 or 3 times faster. And this time the picture stayed mostly in sync, but there is an odd quality to it - perhaps they have to drop frames or something to sync it. But its clearly better.
However, there is still no way to REMOVE a channel you have added to the mediafly dashboard with an mcode - this would seem to be a big problem. I have added two channels, and I dare not add anymore since we apparently can’t get rid of them. (This isn’t related to the Mediafly account as far as i can see)
Finally, when i press “off” on the remote, the screen goes dark, but my tv never tells me it has lost signal.
Ie, the WDTV Live keeps feeding it a black screen, instead of actually shutting off.
Oh, boy… That thread got tiresome when people stopped listening to the facts.
1> The WDTV does NOT have Lip Sync timing adjustment. That’s a missing feature, I wouldn’t call it a bug.
2> Everyone in the thread that was specific about their setup said that they were doing VIDEO via HDMI and AUDIO via TOSLINK. By definition, that indicates a multi-path issue, and the WDTV really can’t be at fault for that, because two wholly different devices downstream are doing decodes.
Is this a different case, where the Audio AND Video are taking the same path?
Please, fix the problem with interaction with Windows Live ID Assistant.
With the new Windows Live Essential Beta (Wave 4), the Windows Live ID Assistant can’t be uninstalled separatly. When the application (Live Essentials) goes Final, how can we resolve the problem?
I have another problem with the update. No screen with HDMI, resolved changing color depth from 12bit to 8bit at HDMI settings.
The current rollback to 1.02.21 on the pre-release page is the version for the last pre-release (1.03.22) and will not rollback this new pre-relaese firmware without editing the version number in the ver file. It needs to be 1.03.36 or above.
No doubt this will be corrected very soon by WD but bear in mind if you have trouble rolling back.
The rollback firmware has now been updated with the correct version number for this pre-release.
MathewS: WHAT bug with MKV / h264? I have over 1200 such MKVs and I’ve yet to come accross any sync issues in any of them. Now, I’ll admit I haven’t watched ALL 1200 of them, but I’ve watched several hundred! :)
Cusco: WD has mentioned that the issue is in the new SDK from Sigma (the interface provided by the chipset manufacturer) . Until SIGMA fixes it, it’s likely that issue will remain in the firmware. I’d imagine WD is banging on their door, too…
Also in the SDK there are some features the WD Live needs:
Audio sync (similar to subtitle sync, but for audio), the PCH sigma based players have this working, this could be a workaround for sync problems
I just want to know if I can adjust the volume, brightness, contrast, saturation in this version firmware.
No… And still no “go to” or “volume control” features as well. I don’t understand this guys from WD. These are such basic features in any media player. I have a TViX with a 8623 Sigma Chip with hundred of basic features that we can’t find on WD Live (8655 Sigma Chip!!!). What kind of engineers are you guys?
They’re engineers who are designing for the things that MOST people want, not few people.
100 to 1 odds that:
Your DVD player doesn’t have any of those things.
Your Blu-Ray player doesn’t have them.
Your DVR doesn’t have them (though some do have volume controls.)
I’m FINE with that; no one misses it on THOSE devices…
Why’s the WDTV need to be different than any of those other components?
The whole point of DIGITAL processing is that what goes in is EXACTLY what comes out. As soon as these things take it upon themselves to start modifying the images or audio, people are gonna yell. By definition, they are no longer faithfully reproducing the signal they were fed.
Now, I know there’s those out there that are still hooking these up to older Composite Video CRTs, but they’re in the TINY TINY minority. These things are made for HD systems, and it’s a “convenience” that they allow hookups to composite systems. Heck, even COMPONENT HD is going the way of the Dodo. It’ll be extinct in 5 years. Digital will rule, in whatever form it takes.
Few things I noticed about the 1.03.35 version that works or works better for me:
Keyboard support is cool and very convenient.
Mediafly is nice.
12bit color depth works better - less random white dots appearing or no dots at all.
What I didn’t like and it concerns me most is:
JPG files appearing when viewing VIDEO, both in network shares and Media server. This is ANNOYING and was expected to be fixed a while ago since the issue is few months old!
No Hebrew support. You have Arabic support, so add Hebrew too.
So, it worked right after the update, but after having everything powered off over the night, when i turned it back on this morning, the TV no longer receives anything via the HDMI cabel.
The WDTV Live shows its little light, and can be remotely turn of and on - and is pingable on the network …hm…
“They’re engineers who are designing for the things that MOST people want, not few people.”
Yeah right.

My DVR DOES have skipping back and forth, this is neede by everyone but you.
Don’t have a blueray player, but DVD’s (and probably bluerays) are always recorded at very low audio levels, so you only need to turn it up. But with the ton of video podcasts you get now, the audio can be all over the place, and if the sound is recoreded very loud it gets played back distored by the WDTV Live, so I can understand wanting to be able to adjust the volume at the source.
“Why’s the WDTV need to be different than any of those other components?”
Well it certainly needs the ability to skip back and forward in discreet amounts.
