After doing a long hard reset TWICE - the HDMI picture returned…

Well it certainly needs the ability to skip back and forward in discreet amounts.
Where’d THAT come from? I wasn’t talking about anything to do with skipping?
I see you guys have added my fix for the network issues, “local master = no” to the smb.conf file, nice !
1080p 23.98 Hz and 24 Hz is still not functioning with my JVC HD950 projector. It still ends up using 1080p50 instead. So this firmware still needs tweaking as this is a regression from the last stable firmware.

Hi eivinn,
Do you actually see the difference between 50 or 60Hz or its just about knowing that you stretch the envelope of WDTV?
Jacob,
I know the WD TV Live sends the wrong framerate because:
-
My HD950 shows that the input lock is 1080p50
-
The WD TV Live does not switch output when choosing 1080p24 or 23.98 (e.g. the picture is not lost when switching as usual).
As to your question I do see a difference between 1080p50 and 1080p60 when playing back 24p material. Both stutters but the 60 Hz version does stutter a lot more. Was that what you had in mind?
Yes, I did.
What about when using the official firmware, does it still slutter?

Oh, boy… That thread got tiresome when people stopped listening to the facts.
I noticed that the tone of the comments in this thread became much more offensive when this “Respected Contributor” started responding. I’d like to suggest that the he be more respectful of his fellow posters by avoiding critical remarks and put-downs when sharing otherwise valuable information. The cutting comments don’t help to solve problems. They just make people defensive and combative.
Comments like those above belong in the junior high locker room… or on Fox News (same difference).
I’ve not been looking at the threads on the beta and other hot topics for a bit, so it is refreshing to see that this second beta release relatively soon after the first. I am also encouraged to see WD responding more quickly to issues reported about the previous beta than on others threads of the past. Hopefully this signals a change in their support practices, and eventually they’ll put out a final update that I will confidently load onto my Live.
One suggestion: post a list of issues and their status. Hopefully everyone will see lots of “fixed” issues on that list.
Thanks for the encouraging changes!
Jacob,
It still stutters using the latest official firmware when using 50 or 60 Hz.
The 1080p24 or 23.98 setting does work however on the official firmware. Problem is the box then freezes playing my MKV files instead. I have not been able to find a workaround for the freezes (must unplug power to recover) and hoped this beta firmware would provide the fix. I have not been able to test that yet.
Just upgrade again to this version. I have to say that I can`t fault anything. Works flawlessly. Certainly seek times has improve dramatically and the DVD menu feature is awesome.
P.S I really appreciate that WD is still working at improving the device. Considering the complexity and number of encoders, thats a miracle that it can read almost anything so successfully. When I bought the unit, it works as advertised and was happy, so more FREE features is icing on the cake. Imagine a company improving the toaster you just bought, for months after and for free. So big thank to the WD team and programmers for the effort and don
t be discouraged with the whining people, you`re doing great in my book !

For those wondering why WD has not implemented an audio delay with this pre-release, look here. The 3rd post from the bottom from Guy_K:
“Per the dev team, Sigma’s SDK does not support an audio delay feature at the moment. We are working on fixing some known audio sync issues. However, if your specific issue seems to differ from what other users have reported, a link to a (legally shareable) sample file would be appreciated.”
I can’t switch to 12 bit color. Choosing 8 or 12 bit from the menu color, depth is always 8 bit (according to what is written on the WDTV).

Hey, I want to get paid for leaving comments too
Just kidding!
I’ve installed these new beta. i’ve tried out the 22er too. i found out 2 problems 1. the same as the 22er. when i turn on my tv (panasonic) he switches to the hdmi connection an presents a dark screen. the wdlive box is off. when i go back to the 21er original it works. 2. i have a network connection via smb to a netgear readynas. when i use the network-funktion to keep the login and password data the connection fails. when i don’t use it the login to the network-share works fine.
UK based, output directly to HDMI input on LG LCD TV.
Update installed easily with no errors - but after reboot *all* video files showed as “unsupported”. I did reboot a couple of times (but did not disconnect power lead) so maybe it’s just a soft reboot? No improvement so moved back to original firmware.
I do hope the final version doesn’t take too long; most of my family’s holiday films were moved to DVD and this box saves searching for the darned things (and finding out that burnable DVD’s seem to degrade quickly in my house). But I can’t navigate the DVD menus etc. etc… I am sure others are suffering the same problems.
What it does, it does superbly, but the absence of DVD menus is proving a real disappointment in this house.
They said I should be getting my check in the mail soon…
Just kidding too ! Anyway that gizmo really work fine for me. smileyvery-happy:

WD should just remove that whole option. 12 bit color content doesn’t even exist in the first place.

Did you try all options in section 1G of the FAQ.

Thank you, WD engineers!
I had previously been using the latest official non-beta firmware version and been on the verge of trashing the device for two principal reasons. I used the device to stream my DVD collection (MP4 container, h.264 video encoded using recent x264 builds, AAC audio, IDX/SUB and SRT subtitles) from my Infrant ReadyNAS server to my LG LCD TV connected via HDMI.
The first problem was creeping audio de-sync: audio and video would start synced but rapidly separate so that after a few minutes the material became unwatchable and only a stop and restart would resync for another few minutes. The second was that a seemingly random subset of my collection would not play at all due to some incompatibility with the audio or video format.
Both problems have cleared up now and the box is staying. In fact, I plan to reinstate my orders for additional boxes for other TVs in the house. Thanks, again!
Now maybe we could get a nice fancy user interface based on the meta-data embedded into a lot of video files?

From my desire to be able to skip forward/back certain amounts of time - I don’t find the “goto” feature of much use to me. I am allowed to write what I want same as you are.
