WD TV Live gen 3 Losing WiFi after start, now cannot connect after latest firmware update

Hi,

Bought my WD TV live Gen 3 a couple of weeks ago, as an update to my WD TV Live. My Gen 2 WD TV Live worked fine over Wi Fi with a basic 802.11n Dongle. Now I have the same modem/router: a netcomm NB6PLUS4Wn. View a simulator of the device here: http://www.cormain.com.au/demo/NCNB6PLUS4WN/default.htm.

When I first set up the WD TV It took me a couple of attempts to successfully configure it to connect to my network, and it was able to stream large 720p files smoothly, as well as access services just fine.

However about every 2nd time I used it, it would not automatically connect to the Wi Fi network and I would have to either restart the device or remove the network and reconfigure it. Today I wanted to watch some podcasts, however it wouldn’t connect again. I was eventually able to get it to connect automatically, by restarting my modem, and restarting the device a couple of times.

Once online it highlighted the new firmware update, and I was able to update over Wi Fi successfully, however since that I cannot get it to connect to my network.

I will note:

1: it can see the SSID broadcasting

2: It shows 2-3 bars. it is being secured with WPA2-PSK with AES

  1. I have tried both the mixed b/g/n setting in my Router, and 802.11n only.

  2. All of my devices are N ready, [New Dell Laptop and iphone 4S].

  3. I have no problems with devices connecting in the same room.

  4. I will restate my WD TV Live Gen 2 worked FLAWLESSLY with the same router and the same settings.

  5. I Am entering the password correctly and am chosing Automatic instead of manual.

  6. This is the PAL version of the Device.

I’m not sure whether I have a dodgy unit, this is some kind of incompatibility, or if it can be fixed in firmware.

Thanks in Advance & Happy Holidays

Dave

EDIT: Finally got it to connect after 6 or so full shut downs and restarts. Still it needs to be fixed.

I know that you stated that your WD TV Live Plus work like a charm with your router, but, it is possible, just for testing, using another router?

No I don’t have a spare, and it may be while till I can get one, however i will reitereate no other Wireless devices have issues with my router.

Not always a good test.  I had an HP laptop that simply would not work with my Westell wifi router.  Laptop worked everywhere else, all other devices worked fine on the Westell.  The two were just incompatible.

I con’t think it is my router, as the Wi Fi network is always detected by the WD TV, and is able to connect fine some of the time.

The fact that I have to delete the previous connection to get it to work again leads me to beleive that it is a Software issue.

I have the same problem, the way I got mine to work was to restore to factory defaults. I believe the problem comes from the new firmware.

Thanx mate will give it a go

Well I upgraded to the latest firmware and did a full reset and it seems to have worked.

Hope it stays that way.

Ditroia, Could you please keep me posted if you successfully maintained connectivity since I experienced exactly same problem. I’m still on 1.05 firmware and because everything else except wi-fi works fine i’m not sure I want to update so i can loose some other important features. Regards,
